One of our government clients is seeking a Transportation Technician to support the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Traffic Management Center. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic by monitoring roadways, responding to incidents, coordinating with emergency response agencies, and operating advanced traffic management systems. The initial assignment is expected to last between 30 and 90 days, with the possibility of extension based on performance.
Schedule- Evening (C Shift)
- Saturday: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
- Sunday: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
- Monday: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
- 12‑hour shifts (EST)
- Perform duties with minimal supervision while following established procedures. Refer only the most complex issues to a supervisor.
- Operate various computer‑based traffic management systems to monitor traffic conditions, manage roadway incidents, and improve traffic flow.
- Monitor highways using surveillance cameras, traffic detection systems, and associated monitoring technologies.
- Monitor all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the Traffic Management Center.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of the operation of all traffic equipment, computers, software, and systems utilized by the Traffic Management Center.
- Utilize traffic management equipment to support incident management, improve travel times, enhance roadway safety, and improve the quality of life for motorists.
- Continually verify the accuracy and validity of all messages displayed on Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and the 511 traveler information system.
- Remain aware of all 511 messages being broadcast throughout the assigned traffic system.
- Enter roadway incident information accurately into traffic management software and computer systems.
- Become familiar with the roadway network and understand the purpose and location of all traffic devices, including detector stations, CCTV cameras, and the 511 system.
- Notify operator staff regarding new and existing operational memorandums.
- Utilize Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents.
- Coordinate with Highway Patrol, Service Patrols, local law enforcement agencies, Fire Rescue, adjacent Traffic Management Centers, and other Tennessee Department of Transportation regions to manage incidents affecting regional travel.
- Dispatch Service Patrols and provide operational assistance, including telephone communications and other support activities.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Dispatch or call center experience is considered a plus.
