We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper / Controller to manage the financial operations of our construction company. This hybrid role combines hands-on bookkeeping with strategic financial oversight, making it ideal for a professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys wearing multiple hats.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial records.
  • Process invoices, expense reports, and vendor payments.
  • Track job costs and allocate expenses to appropriate projects.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide forecasts.
  • Analyze financial data to support decision-making and improve profitability.
  • Assist with budgeting and variance analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Coordinate with external accountants for tax filings and audits.
  • Manage subcontractor payments and lien waivers.
  • Track retainage and progress billing.
  • Handle project-specific financial reporting and cost tracking.
  • Support project managers with financial insights and reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping or controller roles, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, and construction accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage, or Viewpoint).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with AIA billing and construction contracts.
  • Experience with payroll processing and HR compliance.
