We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper / Controller to manage the financial operations of our construction company. This hybrid role combines hands-on bookkeeping with strategic financial oversight, making it ideal for a professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys wearing multiple hats.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial records.
- Process invoices, expense reports, and vendor payments.
- Track job costs and allocate expenses to appropriate projects.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Monitor cash flow and provide forecasts.
- Analyze financial data to support decision-making and improve profitability.
- Assist with budgeting and variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
- Coordinate with external accountants for tax filings and audits.
- Manage subcontractor payments and lien waivers.
- Track retainage and progress billing.
- Handle project-specific financial reporting and cost tracking.
- Support project managers with financial insights and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in bookkeeping or controller roles, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, and construction accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage, or Viewpoint).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with AIA billing and construction contracts.
- Experience with payroll processing and HR compliance.
