Position Details

Research Contract / Grant Specialist – Office for Research, Rutgers University – Full Time, Grade 06, Exempt. Salary range: $77,919 to $114,989 annually.

Job Summary

This position works under the broad direction of the Contract Manager of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP). The Office for Research supports research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of faculty. The specialist provides essential services to faculty and staff, ensuring external support for research, training, and public service programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides essential services to faculty and staff to ensure external support for their research, training and public service programs;
  • Consults, advises and reviews all business/administrative/budgetary aspects of a proposal for completeness, accuracy and compliance with sponsor regulations and Rutgers policies;
  • Submits proposals to all federal, state, local government, non‑profit and for‑profit sponsors via RAPSS, sponsor’s electronic portal, or other route identified by the sponsor;
  • Acts as liaison between the Principal Investigator (PI) and the sponsor for clarifications, documentation, and responses prior to award;
  • Maintains close communication with PI and their support team to handle all post‑award non‑financial aspects of sponsored awards, including post‑award requests, award modifications, technical reports, budget revisions and reallocations;
  • Reviews, negotiates and processes awards and manages the Funding Proposals and Awards modules of RAPSS, ensuring accuracy and integrity of entered information.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with 5 years of total administrative work experience, including at least 2 years in grants management or research administration;
  • Knowledge of basic sponsor policies and procedures;
  • Proficiency with the Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other grant‑application software;
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Research Administration (CRA) certification;
  • Knowledge of electronic research administration programs and federal procurement regulations (FAR, DFAR).
Equipment and Software
  • Computer, printer, fax, copier;
  • Office Suite, Coeus, RAPSS S2S, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Adobe Pkg;
  • Federal and state agency portals and various foundation submission portals.

Work Arrangement

Position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement in accordance with Rutgers policy; flexible arrangements are not permanent and are subject to change.
