ABOUT THE ROLE
Techno is seeking a Civil Inspector to support field operations on a large‑scale transportation infrastructure project in Northern New Jersey. This role plays a key part in overseeing construction activities tied to critical rail and site improvements. You will be embedded in the field, working closely with project teams to monitor progress, ensure compliance, and maintain quality standards across a variety of civil construction scopes.
This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys hands‑on project work and being actively involved in the construction lifecycle.
- Conduct routine site inspections across civil scopes including grading, drainage, utilities, paving, and structural elements
- Verify construction activities align with contract documents, plans, and technical specifications
- Track contractor performance, sequencing, and overall progress in the field
- Maintain daily inspection reports, quantity logs, and photo documentation
- Review incoming materials and confirm compliance with approved submittals
- Observe field testing activities such as soil compaction, concrete placement, and asphalt installation
- Identify and document non‑compliant work and support corrective action follow‑up
- Coordinate with Resident Engineers, field staff, and project teams to communicate site conditions
- Participate in progress meetings and provide updates on field status
- 5+ years of experience in civil inspection, construction oversight, or field engineering
- Experience on transportation, heavy civil, rail, or public infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of site construction practices including earthwork, utilities, and concrete
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications
- Experience using digital reporting tools for field documentation
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred
- ACI, NICET, or other relevant certifications are a plus
- Prior experience working on projects for NJ TRANSIT or similar public transportation agencies, particularly on rail yard or rail facility improvement projects is highly beneficial

The expected salary range for this role in New Jersey is $55 - $65 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process.
