Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Summer Academic Advisor for the Rutgers-New Brunswick Office of the Provost for the Summer 2026 Academic Planning and Advising (APA) season. All summer advisors will work alongside, and under the guidance of, the school-based Assistant Deans and advising staff as they guide incoming first‑year students through the process of registering for their Fall 2026 courses.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Supports in‑person group advising sessions 2‑4 times per week between mid‑June and the end of August, during concurrent sessions of New Student Orientation (NSO).
- Supports group virtual academic advising and registration initiatives for students unable to travel to campus for NSO, International Student Orientation.
- Schedules adjustment virtual drop‑ins and handles administrative work.
- Helps students create balanced and appropriate full‑time schedules for their first semester at Rutgers‑New Brunswick to help students meet degree requirements, complete foundational courses in programs of interest, and explore their academic interests.
FLSA: Nonexempt
Salary Details: $22/hourly

QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Must be comfortable using computers (advising and registration take place virtually and in campus computer labs).
- Summer advisors do not need prior familiarity with Rutgers degree requirements, but must be interested in supporting new first‑year students as they begin their college career.
- Must be willing to engage in reflective conversations with students about their academic interests and goals.
- Ability to help students make connections between those interests and academic opportunities at the University.
