The Department of Journalism and Media Studies seeks part-time lecturers for its undergraduate program in Journalism and Media Studies. Please see the description of our program and the list of courses we offer. Within your cover letter, please let us know which courses in our program you feel most prepared to teach. The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) is a dynamic center of learning at the heart of the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus. Founded in 1982, SC&I research and teaching is delivered by three academic departments:
Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, and Library and Information Science. Through five undergraduate majors and minors, three masters degrees, and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program, the school teaches over 8,400 students each year, of whom 2,600 are its own undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students.
The Department of Journalism and Media Studies (JMS) helps students learn the craft of finding and reporting the news, as well as making other types of media, using cutting-edge tools and technology. The department's courses also aid students in learning to evaluate and understand the wide variety of media forms that permeate their lives. Students gain a grounding in the history, ethics and values of journalism that can prepare them to be media producers during an exciting time of innovation while learning to analyze media systems and power in ways that help them become better-equipped citizens and community members.
