The Puerto Rican Action Board (PRAB) is a comprehensive human services organization in Middlesex County, New Jersey. We provide a range of essential services for children, youth, families, and senior citizens, delivering need‑based assistance to low‑ and moderate‑income residents of Central New Jersey and acting as advocates for those seeking to live productive, self‑sufficient lives.
Position OverviewThe PIC‑C Daycare Worker has a basic understanding of NJ Department of Children and Families, Office of Licensing standards and expectations and child development. The candidate has good classroom management skills and understands developmentally appropriate practices for infants and toddlers. They are knowledgeable of internal systems used for general program operations, practices and procedures and work closely with the Site Director to meet program and organizational goals.
The role requires thriving in a fast‑paced, complex, dynamic environment, promoting entrepreneurship, creative problem‑solving, and respect and compassion for staff members and the populations PRAB serves.
- Demonstrate knowledge of content and students; understand instructional goals; plan and prepare for coherent instruction with supervision.
- Create an environment of trust and respect.
- Apply strategies to assist inclusion of students in various settings, promote student independence, and reinforce positive behavior.
- Maintain records of students’ allergy information and ensure center’s compliance in meal service; follow center’s Crisis Management Plan and procedures.
- Employ constructive communication strategies and approaches with students, staff, and the greater school community; use questioning and discussion; engage students in learning.
- Reflect on practice; document student learning; maintain positive relationships; participate in professional opportunities; show integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality; display a positive work ethic; ensure confidentiality to all children and families; collaborate with staff and supervisors.
- Grow professionally and participate in the school’s professional learning community; attend staff meetings and other required meetings; demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance and punctuality; perform other duties as assigned by Site Director or Senior Director of Early Childhood Programs.
- Follow NJ state requirement as per NJ Department of Children and Families, Office of Licensing, Chapter 122 Manual of Requirement for Child Care Centers; follow Center policy for discipline and care of students in accordance with DYFS and PRAB manual & procedures; insure compliance with PRAB rules, regulations, and procedures per PRAB Employee Handbook.
- Interact positively with children regularly; ensure safety and well‑being of students at all times; manage student drop‑off and pick‑up; organize classroom ensuring contract compliance; create weekly lesson plans/activities; conduct evaluations and record student progress; participate in parent/teacher conferences and maintain all records and reports of attendance, accident/injury/unusual incident; participate in after‑hour meetings, workshops, and activities as needed.
- Assist training other teacher assistants; report any indications of child abuse or neglect to Site Director; perform other duties as assigned.

- Basic knowledge of children’s physical, emotional, and developmental patterns.
- Basic knowledge of general learning theories and curriculum development alternatives.
