Posting SummaryRutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) Educational Opportunity (EOF) is seeking non‑credit instructors to provide virtual and in‑person instruction to students in the SEBS EOF Summer START‑UP at Rutgers University. The instructor will teach an Introductory to Expository Writing course that introduces first‑year student writers to the elements of academic argument. Students learn to recognize the fundamental structure of academic argumentative writing, read and summarize academic essays, and apply these structures in their own essays.
The course is organized around two major writing assignments, guiding students through pre‑writing, drafting, and revising. It includes discussions, workshops, and tutorials with the instructor. The instructor must be available to students via email, phone, or virtual conference during the first week of the program. After the first orientation week, all instruction will occur in person on the Livingston Campus, Piscataway, NJ.
- Deliver lecture and workshop content for the Introductory to Expository Writing course.
- Plan, prepare, and administer formative and summative assessments.
- Provide timely feedback on student writing assignments.
- Maintain an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
- Communicate with students, faculty, and staff regarding instructional needs.
- Participate in faculty orientation, meetings, and closing ceremony as scheduled.
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline;
Master’s degree preferred. - Minimum: 2 years of experience teaching English, preferably in higher education.
- Ability to instruct students in grammar, syntax, and advanced writing skills across multiple skill levels.
- Experience in curriculum development and delivering course content using innovative practices.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively to promote multidisciplinary instruction.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Superior communication skills, ability to relate to students, faculty, and staff.
- Capacity to handle a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
- Knowledge of Zoom and Canvas platforms for one‑week virtual instruction during orientation.
- Team player with strong leadership skills and a positive attitude.
