The Sr. Bridge Structural Engineer shall have a National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies Level III certification (NICET III) and National Association for Corrosion Engineers International Level I certification (NACE I). The Inspector shall have five (5) years of relevant experience or equivalent experience acceptable to MTA C&D. At a minimum, one of the Inspectors, Structural or Civil, shall have a Mechanical Engineering background.

This experience is required to inspect the bridge traveler system. The Structural Field Inspector is a Key Personnel. BWB and TNB familiarity are preferred. This is in conjunction with NJ Transit.

Project Administration & Oversight
  • Act as the owner’s representative on-site, ensuring compliance with contract documents and specifications.
  • Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, and material certifications.
  • Monitor project schedule, progress, and budget; prepare daily reports and monthly summaries.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Ensure construction methods meet design intent, safety standards, and regulatory requirements (AASHTO, DOT, FHWA).
  • Oversee quality control testing (concrete, steel, coatings) and verify results.
  • Enforce environmental and safety compliance on-site.
Coordination & Communication
  • Serve as the primary liaison between contractors, designers, and the client.
  • Conduct progress meetings, resolve field issues, and manage RFIs and change orders.
  • Coordinate with utility companies, local agencies, and stakeholders.
Field Observation & Issue Resolution
  • Observe critical construction activities.
  • Identify potential problems early and recommend corrective actions.
  • Document field conditions and maintain accurate records for claims and disputes.
Contract Management
  • Track quantities for payment estimates and verify contractor invoices.
  • Manage contract modifications and negotiate change orders.
  • Ensure adherence to project specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Supervise field inspectors and junior engineers.
  • Provide guidance on technical issues and ensure proper documentation practices.
Requirements
