Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The Staff Nurse collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members to oversee, coordinate, and provide focused episodic care to Rutgers Health patients. Responsibilities include health promotion, health maintenance, management of health-related problems delivered in face‑to‑face or telephone encounters, and delegation, direction, and supervision of Rutgers Health LPNs and non‑nursing clinical staff.
KeyDuties / Responsibilities
- Explains procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
- Assists patients who are medically complex and/or have sensitive medical or social issues.
- Reviews plan of care, medications/tests with physicians as needed.
- Contacts pharmacy for prescription renewals.
- Documents all patient correspondence and correspondence with other pertinent health care providers.
- Administers prescribed medications and teaches patients how to administer injectable medication.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse (RN required).
- At least two (2) years of experience.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- The ability to function in a team environment is required.
- Basic word processing and computer skills are required.
- Physical Demands:
Position requires standing, walking, or sitting 2/3 of the time; use of hands and arms over 1/3 of the time; lifting up to 10 pounds 1/3 of the time and up to 25 pounds less than 1/3 of the time. - Work Environment:
Moderate noise; some exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and hazardous waste requiring personal protective equipment.
