Overview
University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is dedicated to providing physical, mental health, dental and sex offender treatment services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. UCHC operates with a total budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care within scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care.
- Administer medications and parenteral therapy in accordance with established policies.
- Document all aspects of patient care.
- Informs and instructs patients on their health/illness state and plan of care.
- Participate in data collection related to patients’ status and needs.
- Assist patient/significant other in preparation for discharge and health maintenance at home.
- Initiate emergency procedures and maintain supplies and equipment.
- Provide input to the Registered Nurse for incorporation into the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient’s status.
Minimum
Education and Experience:
Valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- CPR certification required.
- Valid driver’s license and personal or alternative transportation required.
- Preferred:
At least six (6) months of experience in an acute hospital setting. - Physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and lift/rotate patients up to 50 pounds.
- Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
- Must meet immunization requirements; proof of vaccination against seasonal influenza is required if employment commences during flu season, unless a valid medical or religious exemption is granted.
