Position Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), part of Rutgers University, offers physical, mental health, dental and sex offender treatment services to those involved in the criminal justice system in New Jersey. Rutgers is a leading national research university with a total budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff.

Job Title: Staff Nurse – Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center (STU) – Night Shift (Part Time, 20 hours/week).

Location: Avenel, NJ (Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center).
Employment Type: Part Time – 20 hours per week, Night shift.
Grade: 01D |
FLSA: Nonexempt.

Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Staff Nurse to provide nursing care at the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center (STU) in Avenel, NJ. The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs in a correctional environment, functions as a team leader as assigned, and works with health care professionals and security officers.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of inmate patients, including adults and geriatrics.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern, and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
  • Attends appropriate in‑services and continuing education opportunities to maintain necessary skills.
  • Participates in offering education to inmates, security officers, and other members of the health care team.
  • Participates in in‑service meetings and educational programs as an attendee or teacher, as arranged and approved by the supervisor.
Minimum Education and Experience

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey.

Certifications and Licenses
  • CPR Certification.
  • RN license in New Jersey.
  • Valid driver’s license and ownership of a vehicle or alternative transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a correctional setting.
Physical Demands

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes, lift and carry an emergency treatment bag weighing up to 45 pounds, and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

Compensation

Salary Range:
Minimum $37,230 – Maximum $54,050 (annual).
