Job Overview

This Staff Nurse Per Diem position will support health care delivery at East Jersey State Prison in Rahway, NJ. The role will utilize the nursing process to address a wide range of health needs in a correctional environment, with ambulatory care as the primary focus.

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to inmates, including adults (18‑64) and geriatrics (65+), and support families within the correctional system framework.
• Use effective communication skills, demonstrating respect, concern, and courtesy in all interactions.
• Apply nursing protocols and maintain a safe environment during health care delivery.
• Maintain professional skills and pursue continued growth to enhance practice and the organization’s image.
• Adhere to personnel policies to support health care unit operations.

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in New Jersey.

• CPR certification required.
• Valid driver’s license required; applicant must own a vehicle or have alternative transportation between work sites.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting preferred.

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Able to lift and carry an emergency treatment bag up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients up to 50 pounds.

Must obtain approval from the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.

Hourly rate: $59.01 per hour.
