Job Summary
Registered Nurse (RN) – Inpatient CAP 2 position. Prior dialysis experience strongly preferred; other acute dialysis experience considered. Required to flexibly work three 12‑hour rotating shifts per week.
Purpose and ScopeThis role is accountable for the provision and coordination of clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. The RN may delegate appropriate tasks to RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As part of the kidney disease health care team, the RN participates in decision‑making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and program operations.
PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre‑, during‑, and post‑treatment, document in the patient medical record, and make adjustments to the treatment plan as indicated.
- Assess, collaborate, and document patient and family learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education.
- Recognize aspects and implications of patient status that vary from normal and report or collaborate with appropriate health team members.
- Direct and provide safe, effective patient care for assigned patients as prescribed for all modality specific treatment procedures.
- Assess daily assigned patient care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary patient care staff as needed.
- Initiate and coordinate communication with FKC and Non‑FKC dialysis providers and appropriate contracted facility personnel to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Implement, administer, monitor, and document patient response to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, and notify physician of adverse reactions.
- Administer medications as prescribed, documenting justification and effectiveness.
- Initiate and assist with emergency response measures.
- Serve as a resource, leader, coach, mentor, and role model for new and incumbent employees.
- Provide specialized nursing care instructions to hospital/facility staff as stipulated contractually.
- Assist in an outpatient facility as needed and serve as a preceptor to new employees.
- Complete CAP requirements to maintain or advance.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
The role involves heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation. Employees may need to lift equipment up to 200lbs. and chemical or water solutions up to 30lbs. at heights up to 5ft. The position requires frequent, prolonged standing, bending, and may involve working in a health‑care facility with controlled temperature and moderate noise.
Employees may travel for training, meetings, and may provide services at other locations with similar physical demands. Participation in on‑call rotation, night, weekend, holiday or as defined by program needs is required.
SupervisionDesignated Nurse in Charge with oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs. Requires successful completion of all FKC education, modality specific training, and at least 6 months of acute dialysis experience as an RN.
Education and LicensureCurrent appropriate state licensure and current or successful completion of CPR/BLS certification. Must meet practice requirements in all employed states.
Experience and Required Skills- RN with minimum 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience, or more recent experience within the last 2 years.
- Acute dialysis experience preferred.
- Experience in dialysis or kidney disease care.
Hourly rate: $41–$69. Positions are non‑bonus eligible. Bonus eligible positions may offer performance‑based bonuses.
