Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Supervising Physician for Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, located in Clinton, NJ. The Supervising Physician is responsible for providing medical services to inmates of the Department of Corrections, consistent with community Standards of Care. Provides clinical supervision to the assigned physicians and medical nurse practitioners. Serves as liaison for clinical matters with medical providers outside of the system and be available to provide on‑call services.
- Responsible for providing clinical and professional supervision, management, and monitoring of physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants of assigned State Prison.
- Oversees the clinical work of physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants in the assigned State Prison by conducting regular peer reviews in documentation, medication usage, and consult request patterns, as assigned.
- Hosts quarterly meetings for physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants in the region to review CQI issues, policies, and problems.
- Participates in annual performance evaluations of physicians and nurse practitioners within a region.
- Works in concert with the Medical Director and the regional nurse managers to develop and maintain appropriate medical services within the assigned State Prison.
- Assists in the development and implementation of UCHC policies and procedures.
- Participates in UCHC continuous quality improvement program.

- Participates in the formal preparation for health care reviews such as National Commission of Correctional Health Care inspections.
- Performs routine administrative functions and organizational responsibilities.
- Maintains monthly provider clinic schedule for the assigned State Prison, which will be provided to the medical and mental health staff in a concise, clear, and timely manner.
- Responsible for time‑off request approval, time sheet review and approval, and monitoring paid time off and adherence to time and attendance policy for physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants of the assigned State Prison.
- Responsible for ensuring that physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants adhere to all Rutgers, UCHC, and NJDOC conduct and policies, including but not limited to dress codes, time and attendance policies, and all applicable policies.
- Directly responsible for ensuring and documenting progressive discipline of all physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants of the assigned state prison, including but not limited to termination of appointments in collaboration with the Medical Director.
- Licensed physician in the State of New Jersey. Current DEA registration, CDS, and CPR certifications.
- Must be Board Certified and qualified by the state laws/regulations to practice medicine.
- Experienced in a primary care specialty.
- Computer literacy.
- A valid driver's license is required. Possesses own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
- Excellent communication skills are required to interact with upper management. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and promote ideas and transfer detailed knowledge to others.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills working in a service environment. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to patients, inmates, and other employees in the organization.
