Position Overview
Licensed Practical Nurse – Mental Health (Full‑Time, Evening Shift) – Northern State Prison, Newark, NJ. The role provides skilled patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, performs treatments and procedures, and creates a safe therapeutic environment.
Responsibilities- Participates in data collection related to patients’ status and needs.
- Provides input to the Registered Nurse for incorporation into the plan of care by communicating pertinent patient status information.
- Provides direct patient care within scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care.
- Informs and instructs patients/significant others on health/illness status and care plan.
- Assists patients/significant others in discharge preparation and home health maintenance.
- Documents all aspects of patient care.
- Valid Licensed Practical Nurse registration in the State of New Jersey.
- CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites.
- At least six (6) months of experience in an acute hospital setting.
Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting/rotating patients who cannot ambulate (up to 50 lbs). First responder duties require emergency readiness and adherence to Department of Corrections requirements.

Salary range: minimum $32,520, mid $33,020, maximum $34,010.
