Position Summary

University Correctional Healthcare is seeking a Part Time UCHC Staff Nurse for the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, NJ. The Staff Nurse will use the nursing process to meet a variety of health‑care needs with an ambulatory focus, working alongside health‑care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of inmate‑patients—including adults (18‑64 years) and geriatrics (65+)—within the correctional system framework.
• Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern, and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
• Applies current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate‑patients.

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Minimum of one (1) year of psychiatric experience.

• License to practice in the State of New Jersey.
• CPR Certification required.
• Valid Driver’s License required; must have own vehicle or an alternate means of transportation between sites.

• Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent preferred.

Must be physically able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Must lift and carry an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who cannot ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.

Part‑time, 20 hours per week; standard hours 40.00; daily shift Evening; the position requires full onsite work.

Minimum salary $37.23, mid‑range $46.54, maximum $54.05 (annual). Final compensation is based on qualifications, experience, and department or grant funding.

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy, if employment commences during Flu Season Rutgers may require proof of vaccination against Seasonal Influenza for the current season, unless a medical or religious exemption applies. Failure to provide proof may result in rescission of an offer or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
