Overview
University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is dedicated to excellence in providing physical, mental health, dental and sex offender treatment services to those involved in the criminal justice systems in New Jersey.
Responsibilities- Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate‑patient including adults (18 to 64 years) and geriatrics (65+) within the framework established by the correctional system.
- Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
- Uses current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate‑patients.
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- License to practice in the State of New Jersey
- CPR Certification required
- Valid Driver's License is required. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another
- Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting
- Must have capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes.
- Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
