Neurosurgery - Advance Practice Provider Lead

Summary of Job Function

The Lead Neurosurgical Physician Assistant (PA) functions within prescribed guidelines, providing care for neurosurgical patients in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery physicians and staff. The PA serves as a resource for clinical teams regarding patient and disease management and works as a collaborative healthcare provider.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervises, educates, and mentors Department of Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Provides coverage for all faculty sites, manages leave and on‑call schedules for aligned hospitals.
  • Acts as a clinical resource to troubleshoot events, triage new patients, and monitor efficiency of APP workflows and clinical documentation.
  • Provides patient care including taking histories and physical exams, performing procedures, and participating in patient flow.
  • Develops individualized plans of care with interdisciplinary team, initiates referrals, orders and evaluates diagnostic tests.
  • Educates junior residents and medical/assistant students, documents comprehensive exams, and monitors medication plans.
  • Performs pre‑ and post‑operative evaluation, collaborates with supervising physician for treatment plans.
  • Serves as safe, quality care provider and a resource for nursing and ancillary staff regarding disease management and post‑operative course.
  • Participates in recruitment of incoming advanced practice providers.
  • Manages patient admissions, including basic medical information, history review, exam documentation, and escalation of abnormal findings to attending physician.
  • Models RWJB Health’s mission, vision, and values in conduct, communication, respect, and critical thinking.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Registered PA in the State of NJ. Certified PA in the State of N.J. Successful completion of Orientation Programs and BCLS certification.
  • If Nurse practitioner, must be able to see and treat all ages of patients and hold RNFA at the time of application.
