Overview
Rutgers Cancer Institute seeks a Research Nurse Clinician (RNC) to ensure safe, effective, and patient‑oriented conduct of clinical trials. The RNC assists investigators in preparing and implementing new clinical trials, screens and enrolls study participants, and manages protocol‑related clinical care. The RNC also serves as a resource to faculty and staff on available protocols and research topics such as FDA, IRB, and GCP regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Protocol Activation: Collaborate with the Protocol Activation office to initiate and activate new clinical trial protocols using the OnCore® Study‑start up task list; prepare and review study tools, verify IRB and contract approvals, identify and resolve obstacles, and provide protocol‑related nursing education.
- Study Accrual: Work with the research team to prescreen eligible patients; confirm protocol eligibility; perform informed consent; register consented patients in OnCore®; provide precertification and billing information; support sponsor registration.
- Clinical Nursing Responsibilities: Act as liaison between patients and the research team; identify and communicate challenges; manage protocol orders and testing; coordinate continuity of care and patient reimbursement; deliver compassionate oncology nursing care; maintain OCN certification; document visits accurately; reconcile concomitant medications; communicate patient status to care transitions.
- Study Responsibilities: Coordinate interdisciplinary collaboration; grade adverse events using NCI criteria; complete SAE forms and follow‑ups; report deviations; support bio‑specimen collection; assist monitoring visits and audits; respond to sponsor queries; maintain complete research records.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
- Two years of oncology experience required, with at least one year in oncology research.
- License to practice in the State of New Jersey.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN).
- Clinical Research Analyst (CRA) or Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) certification.
- Detail‑oriented, excellent organizational, computer, communication, and interpersonal skills; resourceful; proficient with OnCore®, Word, Excel, and related applications.
