The Research Nurse Clinician (RNC) ensures successful, patient-oriented, safe, and effective conduct of clinical trials at Rutgers Cancer Institute. The RNC assists investigators in protocol preparation and implementation, screens and enrolls participants, and provides protocol-related clinical management. The RNC serves as a resource on protocols, FDA, IRB, GCP regulations, and more.
Responsibilities- Protocol Activation – Collaborate to initiate new protocols; prepare study tools; verify approvals; review protocols; resolve obstacles; provide education; translate treatment plans into orders.
- Study Accrual – Ensure prescreening; review eligibility; obtain informed consent; register patients; input data into OnCore; manage billing information.
- Clinical Nursing Responsibilities – Act as link between patients and team; manage protocol orders; coordinate care; manage reimbursements; provide hands‑on oncology nursing; maintain documentation and medication reconciliation.
- Study Responsibilities – Coordinate services; grade adverse events; support SAE reporting; monitor compliance; assist with bio‑specimen collection; support monitoring visits; maintain research records.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school with license in New Jersey.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Two years of oncology experience, including one year in oncology research.
Certifications/Licenses
- License to practice in New Jersey.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology Nursing Society certification as Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN).
- Clinical Research Professional certifications such as CRA or SoCRA CCRP.
- Detail-oriented, excellent organization, proficiency in computers (Oncore, Word, Excel), strong communication and interpersonal skills, resourceful.
