Critical Care Nurse - CVICU
Provides specialized nursing care to critical patients in the CVICU, focusing on post-operative open-heart recovery and acute cardiac conditions. Ensures patient stability and safety through advanced clinical interventions and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and assess critically ill cardiac patients, including those with fresh hearts, ventilated patients, and those with chest tubes or lumbar drains.
- Perform advanced procedures such as Swan-Ganz catheter placement, chest tube management, and utilization of devices like Impella or IABP.
- Administer medications, manage ventilators, and handle equipment like Flotracks and Temp Pacers according to protocol.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Float within various ICU units, PACU, ED, and IMC, adjusting care based on patient acuity and census.
- Document patient status accurately and maintain compliance with all certification and licensing requirements.
Qualifications:
- Valid NJ or Compact RN license required at the time of submission.
- Minimum of 2 years current CVICU experience; SICU experience with CVICU training considered.
- Certification in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required prior to start.
- Demonstrated skills in post-op open heart recovery, including management of Swan-Ganz lines, chest tubes, and critical cardiac devices.
- Experience with fresh heart surgeries such as CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR.
- Ability to work night shifts (3×12 hours, 19:00-07:30) and participate in holiday rotations.
