Postdoctoral Associate

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in the Medical Immunology Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the immunobiology of cancer and cancer immunotherapy. The research focuses on T cell differentiation and immune responses, with mechanistic explorations to unveil new therapeutic strategies.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Conducts research experiments to understand the role of metabolism in regulating T cell differentiation and the immune response, with mechanistic explorations to unveil new therapeutic strategies.
  • Works with primary T cells in vitro and mouse models in vivo, effectively.
  • Demonstrates expertise in flow cytometry and routinely applies core molecular biology techniques, including Western blotting and quantitative PCR (qPCR).
  • Prepares written reports of the research experiments.
  • Prepares grant proposals based on the research conducted.
  • Gives oral presentations of the research.
  • Assists with the instruction and training of students, fellows, lower-level professionals, and technicians in laboratory instrumentation and processes, etc., to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Salary - 20,000

Mid Range Salary - 90,000

Maximum Salary - 200,000

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
- Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a relevant science is required. Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who are in the process of completing their Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree. Documentation of Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree completion must be provided prior to commencement of employment.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with flow cytometry and metabolic analyses or the ability to effectively learn these techniques will be needed. Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in immunology, T cell biology, and cancer biology, preferred. Background in immunology or cancer biology research preferred. Experience with mouse colony management and mouse experiments in vivo is highly preferred. Computer literacy with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Flow Jo, Graph Pad Prism, and PowerPoint, preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment - PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, retrovirus, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
