Research Scientist
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated research associate non‑tenure track to join the Max Tischfield lab. Our research revolves around two key areas: (1) understanding circuit mechanisms and the neuropathogenesis of Tourette syndrome and related conditions (OCD, ADHD, ASD) using genetic mouse models; (2) the development and functions of brain waste clearance systems, specifically understanding the development, integration, and maintenance of meningeal lymphatic vessels with the glymphatic system and how these processes are affected in disease.
Applicants have the opportunity to work in either focus area. Current projects seek to understand the role of mechanotransduction signaling and force‑based control of cerebro‑lymphatic drainage and waste clearance, and how we can leverage these processes to reduce neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment in disease. Those interested in Tourette syndrome and related conditions have the opportunity to investigate novel hypotheses in mouse models expressing human mutations in high‑confidence Tourette, OCD, and autism spectrum disorder genes.
Current projects involve studying how these mutations affect cortico‑striatal and basal ganglia circuits, dopamine, and the effects on motor learning, action selection, and compulsive‑like behaviors. Our lab combines multiple approaches including human/mouse genetics, molecular biology, in‑vivo/intravital imaging, mouse behavior and operant conditioning, genetic sensors/optogenetics, and computer vision as part of a collaborative, multi‑PI team setting.
Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in neurobiology or a related field with one or more first‑author publications in internationally recognized peer‑reviewed journals. Candidates must have effective communication skills and be highly motivated, self‑driven, creative, and interactive, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently. A proven record of accomplishment with mouse genetics, histology, rodent stereotaxic brain injections, electrophysiology, optogenetics, and/or mouse behavior is preferred.
Experience with script writing and coding skills is a plus. This position requires experience and willingness to work with mice. Applicants should send a CV, a cover letter with a description of their research background, and the names and contact information of three references.
