Postdoctoral Associate
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate within Radiation Oncology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute. The Postdoctoral Associate position focuses on independent laboratory research under the guidance of the Principal Investigator. The lab primarily investigates DNA damage repair mechanisms and cancer development. Key research areas include exploring the role of the Ku70 C-terminal domain and its methylation in DNA damage response, along with the regulatory functions of lysine methyltransferase SETD
4. Additionally, the lab aims to uncover new mechanisms associated with bone marrow failure within this methylation context.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Carries out research activities under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI), including data collection, analysis, and documentation. Assists the PI in ongoing experiments related to DNA damage repair and cancer research, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner. Maintains detailed records of experimental procedures and results. Compiles and analyzes data, and presents statistical findings with appropriate conclusions and recommendations relevant to the research.
Supports the preparation of research manuscripts, reports, grant proposals, and presentations by cleaning, analyzing, and summarizing data. Conducts various experimental techniques aligned with the specific requirements of the research projects. Assists with training and instructing students, research fellows, technicians, and laboratory assistants as needed. Presents research findings through oral presentations at lab meetings, and at national and international conferences.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology or a closely related scientific discipline required. Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who are in the process of completing their Ph.D. degree. Documentation of Ph.D. degree completion must be provided prior to commencement of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is also essential. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Should have competence in basic cell and molecular biology techniques, including cell culture, cloning, and DNA repair assays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with biostatistics, immunology, microscopy, computational genomics, and experience with mouse models are advantageous but not mandatory. Expertise in mouse work or computational biology will be considered a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs. Laboratory work environment, with moderate noise. Exposure to biological specimens (cells, blood, tissues, etc.) with possible exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous chemicals, including radiation and therapeutic drugs. The laboratory environment operates under mandatory universal safety precautions.
