Overview
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II within the Medical Immunology Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute. The primary role of the Research Teaching Specialist II (RTS II) under the direction of Principal Investigator Christian Hinrichs is to design and conduct highly specialized, technical research in tumor immunology with a focus on the discovery and development of T cell therapy for cancer, including tumor‑infiltrating lymphocytes and gene‑engineered T cells.
Active areas of research include T cell receptor discovery, membrane‑tethered cytokine technologies, tumor resistance mutations, target antigen discovery, and preclinical development of new TCR‑based treatments. Opportunities exist to work in an interdisciplinary team in both clinical and laboratory research settings on high‑impact, cutting‑edge projects.
- Conduct multidisciplinary research in tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy, including cell culture, immunologic assays, molecular assays, gene engineering, and animal experiments.
- Investigate, review, modify, develop, and test new analytical procedures and methodologies under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
- Assist with the design of research studies according to study protocols.
- Act as a scientific consultant in areas of specific expertise and train laboratory personnel.
- Interpret raw analytical data and present conclusions to the Principal Investigator for approval.
- Prepare or participate in the preparation of written and oral reports relating to research, grants, and other activities containing findings, conclusions, or recommendations.
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and store digital research data in designated locations.
- Follow laboratory rules and research protocols.
- Collaborate with laboratory members to maintain equipment, manage shared supplies and inventories, update protocols, and dispose of hazardous waste properly.
- Master’s Degree in a biomedical or related science, plus two (2) years of related research experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a biomedical or related science, plus three (3) years of related research experience.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Prior experience with detailed knowledge of T cell biology, tumor immunology, antigen presentation, T cell receptors, tumor antigens, immunotherapy, and laboratory animals.
Grade: 25S. Minimum Salary: $71,162. Mid‑Range Salary: $85,428. Maximum Salary: $101,456.

- Laboratory environment. Moderate noise.
