Visiting Researcher (Multiple Vacancies)
Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) is an integrated academic health center that educates students, provides clinical care, and conducts research to improve human health. The Child Health Institute of New Jersey is a part of RBHS located at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The visiting researcher will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator to conduct molecular cloning, cell culture, confocal imaging, and data analysis, including independent experiments and written and oral reports.
Responsibilities- Design, perform, and analyze experiments focused on mammalian cell culture, including isolation and expansion of cells from murine and human tissues, cell survival assays, and transfection of mammalian cells.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis, and confocal microscopes.
- Assist in establishing performance standards, selecting research methodologies and instrumentation, and coordinating experimental approaches for the Child Health Institute.
- Keep up to date on relevant literature and assist the PI with manuscript and grant application preparation.
- Assist in training students (undergraduate/graduate) in laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Maintain clear and detailed records of procedures and experiments, keep data in shared and accessible locations, and present data to the PI and other lab members in a timely manner.
- Recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in biology, biomedicine, medicine, neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related biological science preferred.
- Consideration will also be given to applicants who have not yet graduated with a bachelor’s degree; documentation of the degree must be provided before employment.
- Training in basic experimental techniques, including histology, rodent brain dissection, stereotaxic surgeries for intracerebroventricular injections, and fluorescent microscopy.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to understand and communicate in English.
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Highly motivated, excellent organizational skills, able to work collaboratively and independently under the guidance of the PI.
- Ability to assist in daily lab management, including training and direct oversight of personnel and students.
- Prior experience with biomedical research, either basic or clinical.
- Experience with animal behavioral techniques.
- History of prior publications.
- Excellent writing skills with experience in grant, fellowship, manuscript, or scientific report preparation.
- Work in a laboratory environment with moderate noise and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Perform laboratory research and may lift office supplies, files, or light boxes up to 25 pounds.
- Walking, standing, and sitting required.
- Must pass employee health clearance, TB test, and required laboratory safety training.
Salary range:
Minimum $25,000 – Maximum $250,000, with lower and upper ranges as appropriate. Final offer will consider qualifications, experience, grant support, market benchmarks, and internal equity.
