OverviewNew Jersey’s academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. The Child Health Institute (CHI) focuses on cancer treatment and research, neuroscience, advanced biotechnology and medicine, environmental and occupational health, and health care policy and aging research.
Posting SummaryRutgers seeks a part‑time Student Assistant to support research activities under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Lab Manager. The role involves learning applied laboratory techniques, improving experimental design, and developing oral and written communication skills.
Responsibilities- Perform experiments related to cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or neuroscience.
- Maintain laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis, and confocal microscopes.
- Compile and analyze data with appropriate statistical analysis, draw conclusions, and suggest future directions.
- Adhere to established performance standards and coordinate experimental approaches.
- Keep detailed records of analyses, maintain data in shared accessible locations, and present data to the PI and lab members.
- Assist with general lab maintenance, organization, and supply ordering.
Minimum $15.92 per hour; maximum $150.00 per hour (salary determined by qualifications, experience, and funding).

- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program.
- Broad (college‑level) knowledge in biological sciences including biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and/or neuroscience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to understand and communicate the job duties.
- Computer literate with proficiency in database and reporting tools.
- Capability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Highly motivated, self‑driven, creative, and interactive.
- Interest in learning to perform molecular, cellular, and imaging experiments.
- Work in a laboratory environment.
- Work with rodents.
- Potential lifting of laboratory items and boxes.
- Walking, standing, and sitting required.
- Must pass employee health clearance, TB test, and required safety training; follow all laboratory safety precautions.
- Position is for the summer semester beginning June 1, 2026 through August 28, 2026. Applicants must be current students in a Rutgers or RBHS program.
