Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. The position works in the lab of Dr. Kevin Monahan in the Nelson Labs on the Busch Campus. The Laboratory Technician will assist a senior graduate student and departing postdoc with completing their research projects by assisting with routine technical work in the laboratory.
- Prepares biological samples.
- Assists lab members with sample collection.
- Processes samples following routine protocols and maintains detailed records for each sample.
- Performs mouse husbandry: genotyping, weaning, and animal care.

QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
- Experience working with mouse husbandry and a mouse colony.
- Practical understanding and a working knowledge of basic scientific techniques.
- Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Will be required to participate in required occupational health and safety programs.
- Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
- This position will require regular evening and/or weekend work.
- Prior experience with mouse handling and behavior.
