Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Assistant for the department of OB/ GYN at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under direction, the Student Assistant (The Machine Learning & Data Intern) will support the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology in developing technology‑enabled solutions that improve research, education, and operational workflows. This student role provides hands‑on exposure to data processing, basic machine‑learning workflows, and user‑centered design within an academic healthcare setting.

The intern will assist faculty and staff with tasks that expand the department’s analytic and digital capacity, contributing to research initiatives, educational tools, and quality‑improvement projects.

• Perform data preparation and exploratory analysis to support research, predictive modeling, and departmental analytics needs.
• Contribute to machine‑learning prototype development, including running model experiments, evaluating performance, and preparing validation summaries for research outputs.
• Develop or enhance dashboards and lightweight digital tools that streamline data collection, reporting, or workflow efficiency.
• Assist with UX‑oriented prototype design and incorporate user feedback into iterative improvements to digital tools.
• Produce clear technical documentation for datasets, scripts, and prototypes while maintaining compliance with departmental data‑handling requirements.
• Present project updates and analytical findings to faculty and staff in a clear, accessible format.

Salary Range:
Minimum $15.49 – Mid $75.00 – Max $150.00

The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. We also take into consideration market benchmarks, if and when appropriate, and internal equity to ensure fair compensation relative to the university’s broader compensation structure.
