The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations across the State of New Jersey.
Posting SummaryRutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Electrician/ Maintenance Mechanic R-18 for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The position works independently in a zone reporting directly to a second level supervisor.
Responsibilities- May guide and instruct other staff in the performance of a wide range of electrical duties required for all university facilities.
- Perform electrical tasks including estimation, procurement of materials, repair and installation of circuits, wiring, fixtures, and controls; sometimes based on work orders with little or no instruction.
- Guide and instruct craft trainees in similar duties.
- May perform general duties in other trade areas.
Grade 18 – Minimum Salary: $48,729.88, Mid‑Range Salary: $57,384.81, Maximum Salary: $66,256.38.

Full Time. 40 hours per week. Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.

Qualifications- High‑school or vocational school education or equivalent.
- Qualified journeyman electrician registered with the State of New Jersey, or completion of a US Department of Labor approved apprenticeship program (minimum 3 years) in electrical work.
- Maintain journeyman certification while employed.
- Valid driver's license with at least two years driving experience.
- Successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
- Good communication skills, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.
- Competence in performing complex repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and circuitry, including industrial power wiring and switch gear for 480‑volt systems.
- May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.
- Shift hours:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm. - Clean driving record required.
