Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a HVAC Maintenance Mechanic for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The position works independently in a “zone” reporting directly to a second level supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guide and instruct other staff in the performance of a wide range of refrigeration and air conditioning duties required for all university facilities.
  • Provide highly skilled refrigeration, air conditioning, and mechanical duties required for the installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of all University facilities.
  • Guide and instruct craft trainees.
  • Perform any duties of the group.
  • Assume general trade duties in other trade areas as assigned.

40 hours per week (Day shift – Monday to Friday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM)

Staff – 12 month

Pension Eligibility: PERS

Salary Range
  • Minimum Salary: 50,191.78
  • Mid Range Salary: 59,106.35
  • Maximum Salary: 68,244.07

Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school/vocational school or equivalent plus four years of experience performing repair and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Successful completion of an approved training course or of a certified apprenticeship program in the craft, plus two years of experience performing repair and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and equipment may be substituted for the above experience.
Certifications / Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license, two years driving experience and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
  • Proof of certification as required by Section 608 of the Clean Air Act revisions of 1990.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Competent in performing complex and varied repair and maintenance of refrigerating and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
