Client Advocate - SERV

Job Type/Status: Full-Time

Salary: $25.00 per hour

The Advocate is responsible for victim services, including case management, advocacy, and crisis-counseling as well as presenting educational programs to the community. Advocates report directly to the Program Coordinator.

• Provide counseling and support to victims, family members and significant others.
• Accompany victims through procedures at area hospitals, police departments, prosecutor's office, and court proceedings.
• Provide victims with case-related medical and legal information
• Provide appropriate referrals for victims
• Present Outreach Education programs in schools, community centers, church groups, etc., and Sensitivity Training programs to personnel at hospitals, police departments and social agencies in the community
• Maintain victim case files including state agency paperwork requirements
• Maintain Victim Assistance and education statistics
• Assist with office procedures pertinent to the operations of the program

The Advocate must successfully complete 40 hour New Jersey State Certified Sexual Violence Advocacy Training provided by Services Empowering Rights of Victims (SERV). Advocates have experience working with people, especially on a one-to-one basis, and demonstrated sensitivity toward the needs of victims. Effective verbal and written communication skills and public speaking is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice or Human Services is mandatory.

Work experience may substitute for education on a year-to-year basis.
