Application Developer

Overview

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is hiring an Application Developer for the Bloustein Center for Urban Policy Research (CUPR). The role involves designing, developing, testing, and documenting data-driven web applications and databases, supporting data informatics platforms that enhance science communication and decision support across multiple research areas including climate change and urban planning. The Application Developer will collaborate with project leadership and IT teams to meet user needs and adopt new web technologies.

• Design, program, test, and document interactive web and stand-alone applications.
• Develop custom front-end interfaces using JavaScript packages for data visualization and GIS mapping.
• Create and optimize SQL databases and develop APIs and data pipelines.
• Collaborate with project leaders, IT staff, designers, and project managers to integrate features and gather feedback.
• Maintain knowledge of advances in web technology and implement new development tools.

• Required skills include HTML, JavaScript, CSS, JSON, SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), and Git version control.
• Preferred experience with ReactJS, Bootstrap, ArcGIS Maps SDK, server-side scripting (Python), and Docker.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least two years of relevant work experience.

• Salary range: $81,778 to $125,121 with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, retirement plans, and educational benefits.
• Position is full-time, exempt, grant-funded, and may offer a hybrid work arrangement.
