Position Summary: The Data Collector will be responsible for completing seat belt usage data collection with accuracy. As a reliable and honest member of the team, the Data Collector will use personal vehicles to drive themselves and other data collectors to locations and perform seat-belt usage observations of New Jersey’s drivers and passengers while NJIT reimburses the mileage usage. The position is required to always observe safety distance away from the roadway.

Essential Functions:

Drives oneself and other data collectors to locations across New Jersey including Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic, Union, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem County from June 2, 2025, to approximately July 15, 2025. If needed, Data Collectors may be designated to collect data in the northern or southern counties.

Performs data collection on seat-belt usage of New Jersey’s drivers and passengers.

Involves observing drivers and passengers in their vehicles to determine seat belt usage.

Stands at a safe distance from the roadway to observe seat belt usage.

Performs duties 7 days a week between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm with flexibility on days available to work.

Attends mandatory training.

Any additional responsibilities as required by management.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

Having a personal vehicle to travel to the site is required.

Proof of driver’s license and vehicle registration must be provided.

Must be able to stand and observe seat belt usage of vehicles traveling on the roadway.

Must be able to stand for 40 minutes at a time while the data collection is being completed.

Reliability, honesty, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for hard work is required.

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
