GENERAL

DESCRIPTION

The Infrastructure & Building Maintenance Laborer performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, construction, repair, and labor activities in support of the City’s Public Works operations. This position carries out the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure, roads, sidewalks, rights-of-way, buildings, parks, and other public facilities; operates hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment; and responds to routine and emergency maintenance needs, including weather-related events.

The work requires a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, quality workmanship, and responsive service to the community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance, repair, construction, and improvement of City streets, sidewalks, curbs, crosswalks, parking lots, rights-of-way, walkways, trails, drainage features, buildings, grounds, and other public infrastructure.
  • Operates and safely uses a variety of hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment, including loaders/backhoes, paint stripers, concrete saws, snow plows, salt spreaders, and other assigned equipment.
  • Performs asphalt, concrete, excavation, grading, drainage, and related infrastructure maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assists with the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of PVC piping, traffic signs, fencing, playground components, and other infrastructure and site improvements.
  • Performs building maintenance and repairs, including painting, carpentry, drywall installation and repair, minor plumbing, and other general facility maintenance tasks.
  • Performs grounds, right-of-way, trail, and site maintenance, including vegetation and stump removal, debris removal, clearing, and other activities necessary to maintain safe and accessible public areas.
  • Responds to service requests and maintenance concerns and takes appropriate action to address identified problems or conditions.
  • Participates in emergency and severe weather operations, including clearing debris and maintaining access to emergency routes, bridges, rights-of-way, streets, sidewalks, and parking areas; operates snow plows and salt spreaders as assigned.
  • Conducts daily inspections of assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools; identifies and reports mechanical, safety, or operational concerns; and ensures equipment and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
  • Maintains accurate records and completes basic documentation, data entry, and electronic communications related to assigned work.
  • Responds appropriately to direction and supervision and demonstrates the ability to work independently when assigned.
