Position OverviewThe Property Management Accountant plays a critical role in the monthly close process, financial reporting, and overall accounting operations for a portfolio of more than 70 properties. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage high-volume accounting functions in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements for assigned properties, including executive summary narratives
- Assist with monthly close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Review balance sheets and general ledger accounts to ensure all balances are fully reconciled
- Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules to the trial balance
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
- Maintain the general ledger and ensureaccurateaccounts payable coding and data entry
- Calculate and record monthly management fees by property
- Monitor and process tenant security deposit transfers and refunds
- Manage tenant billing for monthly, quarterly, and annual charges, including:
- Rent
- CAM charges and reconciliations
- Utilities
- Insurance
- CPI increases
- Late fees and NSF charges
- Prepare supporting documentation for annual audits
- Coordinate year-end activities with external CPA/audit firms
- Review and post year-end adjusting journal entries provided by CPAs
- Calculate and file Delaware Gross Receipts Taxes (monthly and quarterly) by required deadlines
- Assistproperty management with the development of annual budgets and cash flow forecasts
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountingfrom an accredited college or university
- 5+ years of property management accounting experience
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP
- Advancedproficiencyin Microsoft Excel and Word
- Proven ability to produce accurate, detailed financial reporting
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally
- Strong organizational skills with a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism
- Experience with Yardi or similar property management accounting software
