Job Description

Distinguishing Features Of The Class:

An employee in this class is responsible for performing technical and administrative tasks to oversee and coordinate the production of major County-wide financial publications such as the annual operating and capital budgets, budget presentations, revenue, and budget summaries, planning and strategy reports, fiscal reports, legislation and special projects. Responsibilities also include gathering and maintaining financial data in financial systems and/or other programs.

Work involves extensive use of a variety of software programs, including word processing, spreadsheet, publishing and graphics programs, scanned applications, copiers and printers. This employee may perform administrative tasks to assist the Chief Financial Officer. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer or other designated supervisor. The employee may supervise subordinate clerical positions.

Examples Of Work: (Illustrative Only)

  • Prepares data, designs format and layout of information, coordinates printing, and works with other agencies to produce a variety of fiscal publications and reports;
  • Uses a variety of current software applications including, but not limited to, Windows;
    Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.);
    Adobe, Clear Gov and other state-of-the-art applications;
  • Serves as liaison to other divisions and departments pertaining to publications and software applications;
  • Assists department co-workers in the use of software applications and programs;
  • Assists with administrative duties such as preparation of policies and procedures, fiscal reports, goals and objectives, performance evaluations, and analysis of requests from operating units;
  • Gathers and inputs data into the financial systems, spreadsheets and/or other applications;
  • Promotes an ongoing attitude of dedication to excellent public service and ensures that external and internal customers are provided with the highest quality of service;
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the budget;
  • Assists in the preparation of legislation;
  • Maintains current knowledge of, and proficiency in the use of, software applications, programs, and equipment required in the course of the work;
  • Assists with special projects as requested;
  • May supervise subordinate clerical positions;
  • Operates a personal computer and other related equipment in the course of the work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of a wide variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.), Adobe, publishing programs, and scanned applications;
  • Knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; knowledge of government finances, and governmental organization;
  • Ability to type with accuracy and proper grammar;
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, and other related equipment;
  • Skill and proficiency in the use of a variety of advanced software programs;
  • Ability to prepare reports, forms, handbooks, written communications and other communicative materials;
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established policies;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to supervise others.

Acceptable Experience And Training:

  • At least five years of experience working with a range of computer systems and advanced software applications, including at least two years of experience designing, formatting, and producing professional publications, brochures, reports, and other technical documents.
  • Requires graduation from a standard high school program or completion of a GED certificate program, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must pass a county background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (up to 8 hours per day).
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to view computer monitors and read printed materials for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via virtual platforms.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry light items (typically up to 15 pounds), such as files, documents, or office supplies.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and focus in a standard office setting.
