Position: 12-Month Teachers (Special Education Certification Required) – Pre-School, Leach

    • May 18th – 2 hours after school PD @ Summer School Location. (More information to follow from site coordinator(s).)

    • 12-Month CO/LE/SO: 7:45 am – 3:15 pm (Monday – Thursday)
    • 12-Month GR: 7:00 am – 2:30 pm (Monday – Thursday)

    • CO: 8:15 am – 10:45 am & 12:00 pm – 2:50 pm (Monday – Thursday)
    • 12-Month LE/SO: 8:15 am – 2:50 pm (Monday – Thursday)

  • Compensation: Per Diem based on Teacher Salary Scale

Position Goal: To create and sustain an educational environment conducive to the fulfillment of the District's Mission and Vision so that maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized. This position is responsible for supervising the implementation of curricular initiatives to ensure that students achieve proficiency in all subject areas.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must be eligible or hold State of Delaware Licensure.
  • Must be eligible or hold State of Delaware Certification for the position identified above.
  • Proficient in technology:
    Microsoft Office applications, children’s educational software, etc.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.
  • Shows evidence of knowledge regarding practices known to be effective in promoting student learning while increasing student achievement.
  • Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job-related tasks.
  • Preferred experience working with students who have multiple disabilities.
  • Acceptable criminal background report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Delivers instruction based on the general education curriculum and the Delaware Grade Band Extension Standards.
    • Develops weekly lesson plans that contain all required components and are differentiated to meet the Individualized Educational Plans of students.
    • Delivers instruction utilizing appropriate resources, computers and switch adapted software, assistive technology, audio‑visual aids, equipment, materials, technology and instructional strategies to supplement instruction and presentations.
    • Provides differentiated instruction based on each student’s individual level of functioning and preferred learning modalities.
    • Plans and supervises paraprofessionals, volunteers, class projects, community outings, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities and guides students in learning from those activities.
    • Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provide students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Develops and implements a classroom management system.
    • Provides a positive role model of appropriate and respectful interactions with students and staff.
    • Develops, teaches, and reviews clear and concise classroom rules, routines, procedures and expectations for students and support staff, including nurses from outside agencies who serve individual students.
    • Follows strategies and requirements for effective behavior management, non‑violent crisis intervention training, and other behavioral interventions related to a student’s disability.
    • Assists students in activities of daily living, including personal care routines such as feeding and hygienic routines.
  • Assesses students in assigned certification area.
    • Plans and implements academic, functional and community‑based instruction for students with significant disabilities.
    • Administers appropriate and required informal and formal assessments based on student needs and state regulations.
    • Collects and interprets data and utilizes it to modify instruction, content, and to report progress to parents and the school district.
