The Director of Elementary Education provides strategic leadership, supervision, and support to elementary school principals to ensure high-quality instruction, strong school culture, operational excellence, and equitable student outcomes across all elementary schools. The Director serves as the primary supervisor and thought partner for principals, guiding continuous improvement efforts, developing leadership capacity, and aligning school-based practices with strategic goals.
Performance Responsibilities- Supervise, coach, evaluate, and support elementary school principals through regular school visits, data conversations, and leadership development cycles.
- Evaluate elementary principals in concordance with the state evaluation system as specified in Board Policy and Title 14 Legislative Code.
- Develop building administrator capacity to lead instructional improvement, school operations, family engagement, and professional development.
- Establish clear expectations for school leadership and monitor progress toward district and school goals.
- Facilitate principal meetings, leadership learning opportunities, and collaborative problem‑solving structures.
- Support principal recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and retention efforts.
- Partner with principals to implement rigorous, standards-aligned instructional practices and high-quality learning experiences.
- Monitor academic performance and student growth data to identify trends and inform improvement planning.
- Guide schools through continuous improvement cycles using multiple measures of student success.
- Promote equitable access to advanced learning opportunities, intervention supports, and enrichment experiences.
- Support principals in creating efficient systems for scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and resource management.
- Monitor school operations to ensure safe, orderly, and supportive learning environments.
- Collaborate with district departments to coordinate services and remove barriers impacting school performance.
- Support crisis response, problem-solving, and issue resolution as needed.
- Promote equitable educational opportunities and inclusive school practices across all elementary schools.
- Monitor student attendance, engagement, behavior, and achievement indicators.
- Collaborate with departments supporting multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and specialized programs.
- Lead district elementary initiatives aligned to strategic plan.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements while maintaining focus on continuous improvement.
- Support principals in building strong partnerships with families and community organizations.
- Represent the district at meetings, events, and community forums.
- Respond to stakeholder concerns and facilitate collaborative resolution processes.
- Work directly with Human Resources concerning progressive discipline of staff; conduct Level II grievances as necessary.
- Direct oversight of day-to-day principals' activities including staffing, EPER contracts, field trips, professional absence requests, and reported-time payroll.
- Collaborate with district team members to facilitate operational responsibilities such as September 30 Unit Count, Aspiring Administrator Leadership Cohort, Teacher of the Year/Employee Recognition, District Calendar, and more.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or the Superintendent's designee.
- Holds a graduate degree in education; preferably in Educational Leadership.
- Demonstrated building principal experience (a minimum of 3 years).
- Demonstrated teaching experience (a minimum of 5 years).
- Holds or is eligible for administrative licensure in the State of Delaware.
- Possesses knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction.
- Understands summative and formative assessments, specifically familiarity with state student testing programs.
- Possesses the necessary interpersonal skills to mentor and coach administrators.
- Able to work as an effective member of a collaborative team.
