Placement Note

All staff are hired by Milford School District rather than a specific building. While this opening is currently at the building listed above, final placement is subject to change based on district staffing needs.

Position Summary

The Paraprofessional for Student Support and Discipline assists in maintaining a safe, positive, and productive learning environment by building meaningful relationships with students, supporting behavioral and social-emotional needs, and collaborating with staff to promote student success. This position works closely with administrators, teachers, counselors, and families to address student behavior concerns, reinforce positive conduct, and support school-wide expectations.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with students to foster trust, engagement, accountability, and school connectedness.
  • Respond proactively to student needs throughout the school day and provide support in a manner that promotes dignity, respect, and personal growth.
  • Assist in monitoring students throughout the school campus, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, arrival and dismissal, and other common areas.
  • Support behavior management of individual students and groups of students.
  • Reinforce school expectations, classroom procedures, and positive behavioral practices established by teachers and administrators.
  • Utilize conflict resolution, de-escalation, restorative practices, and other intervention strategies to help students resolve conflicts and make positive choices.
  • Assist with addressing, documenting, and investigating disciplinary matters related to violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators, school counselors, student and family interventionists, nurses, teachers, and other support staff to identify and implement appropriate interventions and supports for students.
  • Monitor student behavior and activities to ensure student safety, security, and adherence to school rules and expectations.
  • Adjust behavioral responses and interventions based on individual student needs, developmental levels, and circumstances.
  • Conduct respectful and professional conversations with students, parents/guardians, and staff regarding behavioral concerns and disciplinary matters when appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource to staff regarding school discipline procedures, student expectations, and behavior support strategies.
  • Assist with supervision and management of students during assemblies, special events, field trips, and other school activities.
  • Support students in developing self-regulation, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and disciplinary matters in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and a team-oriented approach in responding to building needs and supporting school operations.
  • Participate in professional development and training related to student behavior, school safety, and student support services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by building or district administration.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Willing to participate in restraint training to obtain certification.
Terms of Employment

Ten‑month (10) full‑time employee.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
