Position Overview
Assistant Principal of Culture & Climate serves as a key member of the Immersion School (K–5) leadership team and is responsible for developing, sustaining, and advancing a positive, inclusive, and high‑expectations school culture.
This role leads school wide systems and practices related to student behavior, discipline, attendance, restorative practices, and social‑emotional development. The Assistant Principal ensures a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment where students are known, valued, and held to consistent behavioral and academic expectations.
In collaboration with the Principal and school leadership team, this position supports the implementation of culturally responsive behavior systems that align with the developmental needs of elementary learners. The Assistant Principal works to ensure that school wide expectations are clearly communicated, consistently reinforced, and grounded in restorative and relationship‑centered practices.
This role also supports the school's FLES Greek Language program by promoting cultural awareness, celebrating Greek language and heritage through school wide events and daily practices, and reinforcing a school identity that values global citizenship and cultural learning within an elementary setting.
Additionally, the Assistant Principal supports family engagement, school communication related to student behavior and culture, and community partnerships that strengthen the overall climate and sense of belonging within the Lower School.

- Bachelor's degree in education, and an active DE License and Certification.
- Leadership Certification Preferred, eligible for and willingness to actively obtain.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Docs and the willingness and ability to learn programs required of the position.
- Demonstrated Leadership Skills in garnering support, motivating others to meet and surpass department and district‑wide objectives, handling conflict using restorative practice techniques through a lens that all students can learn and have a voice.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, staff, and all stakeholders.
- Proven ability to hold others accountable.
- Knowledgeable about formative and diagnostic assessments and research based instructional practices.
- Equity driven, demonstrated sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.
- Superior grasp of effective instructional and behavioral methods and strategies for educating urban youth including but not limited to right‑brained restorative practices (trauma informed practices), culturally responsive teaching, Social Emotional Learning, grading for equity and coaching for equity.
- Previous experience as an Instructional Coach, Dean, Student Advisor, or similar leader role in a K‑12 environment, preferably in an immersion or foreign language program.
- Leadership Certification.
- Exceptional ability to analyze data.
- Analyze school wide culture, behavior, attendance, and climate data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Use discipline, referral, and engagement data to design proactive supports and interventions aligned with restorative practices.
- Collaborate with instructional leaders to examine the relationship between school culture indicators and academic outcomes.
- Monitor the impact of behavior systems and cultural initiatives and adjust practices based on evidence and outcomes.
- Provide timely, actionable feedback to teachers focused on classroom culture, student engagement, and positive behavior supports.
- Support professional learning related to culturally responsive practices, restorative discipline, and immersion‑aligned classroom environments.
