Position: Coordinator – Statewide Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Overview

Coordinator – Statewide Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This position supports comprehensive educational services for students who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind from birth to 22 years of age, across the state. The program provides technical assistance, education, and family-centered services in collaboration with local school districts, families, and allied professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional leadership for Statewide Programs for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, including audiology, family education, Early Learning Program, outreach services, and other statewide initiatives.
  • Coordinate and provide coaching, consultation, and technical assistance to local education agencies, charter schools, and Statewide Programs staff regarding evidence-based instructional practices and educational programming for children who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate statewide supports that promote high-quality educational programming and compliance with best practices for students' IEPs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate professional learning opportunities for Statewide Programs staff and Delaware educators, service providers, and stakeholders serving children who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind.
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of statewide educational, leadership, and enrichment events for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Coordinate statewide referrals for services from birth through age 22, in collaboration with Birth to Three, school districts, charter schools, families, and community partners.
  • Provide administrative oversight and program leadership for the Early Learning Program serving children ages 18 months through 5 years, ensuring high-quality programming and regulatory compliance.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships and maintain effective communication with local education agencies, state agencies, families, community organizations, and internal staff to ensure coordinated, equitable, and effective services for children who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support educational planning, transition services, and the implementation of statewide initiatives that improve outcomes for children who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind.
  • Monitor program effectiveness, analyze data, and support continuous improvement efforts to ensure high-quality statewide services and student outcomes.
  • Evaluate assigned staff using the DPAS/DTGSS process and procedures as identified by the state department or approved evaluation tool for the employee group.
  • Promote leadership development among professional and supporting services staff.
  • Follow district processes, procedures, and protocols outlined for administrators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Deaf Education or related field
  • Must hold or be eligible for Delaware School Principal/Assistant Principal Certificate
  • Must hold a Teacher of Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing certificate or a related teaching certification
  • Administrative experience preferred; minimum five years of teaching experience
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in the development and education of children who are deaf and hard of hearing, including continuum of educational services
  • Knowledge of language and communication needs of deaf children, including factors in educational placement and service provision
  • Fluency in American Sign Language preferred
Salary and Benefits
