Teacher - Drivers Education and Traffic Safety

The goal of the Driver's Education Teacher is to provide high-quality, comprehensive instruction that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become safe, responsible, and law-abiding drivers. This position aims to promote student understanding of traffic laws, defensive driving strategies, and the importance of making sound decisions behind the wheel. The Driver's Education Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction aligned with state regulations and district guidelines.

Instruction should incorporate real-world scenarios, safety awareness, and risk-reduction strategies to support student success. The teacher will create a structured and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement, accountability, and confidence. Additionally, the Driver's Education Teacher will assess student progress through written, performance-based, and observational measures; maintain accurate records of student achievement and driving hours; and communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff.

The position also includes promoting safe driving habits, modeling professionalism, and ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and legal requirements.

Minimum requirements include eligibility or holding State of Delaware Certification as a Drivers Education and Traffic Safety Teacher, a valid driver's license, a driving record with no more than five points total, a minimum of twenty-one credits in a degree program approved by the Delaware Department of Education, a bachelor's degree or master's degree, an acceptable criminal background report, and no entries on the Child Protection Registry in the State of Delaware.

Essential duties and responsibilities include designing and delivering instruction aligned with the Common Core State Standards, differentiating instruction using various teaching strategies, implementing behavioral and social-emotional interventions, administering and interpreting assessment data, developing and delivering weekly lesson plans, communicating with families, administering assessments, preparing documentation for Department of Education Blue Certification, complying with regulations and policies, attending professional development programs, and performing other duties as assigned.

Physical demands include using hands and fingers, talking or hearing, tasting or smelling, standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, and specific vision abilities.

Pre-employment requirements include a criminal background check, TB test results, a copy of the social security card, and an I-9 form.
