The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership, supporting school operations, and promoting a safe, positive, and student-centered learning environment. Responsibilities include supporting student achievement, attendance, discipline, curriculum implementation, staff supervision, school culture, and daily operations. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the community to support equitable educational opportunities, continuous school improvement, and successful early learning student outcomes.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required, experience teaching in early childhood and/or elementary education preferred.
  • Proven ability to serve as an effective instructional leader through collaboration, data-informed decision making, and support of teaching and learning.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community.

Note:All staff are hired by Milford School District rather than a specific building. While this opening is currently at the building listed above, final placement is subject to change based on district staffing needs.

  • Work collaboratively, professionally, and productively with school and district leadership teams to support high-quality educational programming, student services, and school operations that meet the needs of students, families, staff, and the school community.
  • Support the Principal in ensuring school operations align with Board policies, district procedures, state and federal regulations, and all mandated requirements.
  • Provide instructional leadership in the areas of student achievement, attendance, behavior, school culture, and continuous school improvement.
  • Support the implementation of curriculum, evidence-based instructional practices, and data-driven decision making to improve teaching and learning for all students.
  • Monitor and analyze student achievement, assessment, attendance, behavioral, and other school data to identify trends, inform decision making, and improve student outcomes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of special education laws, regulations, services, and compliance requirements, including supporting the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support the implementation of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and other systems of support to ensure the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental success of all learners.
  • Promote equitable access to instruction, interventions, accommodations, and enrichment opportunities to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Promote a strong foundation for lifelong learning by supporting the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and developmental growth of young learners through developmentally appropriate practices, early identification of student needs, and targeted interventions that maximize student success.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of early childhood education, child development, and evidence-based instructional practices for students in preschool through first grade, ensuring developmentally appropriate learning experiences that foster academic, social-emotional, language, and behavioral growth.
  • Support the implementation of high-quality early intervention and early learning services by collaborating with educators, specialists, and families to identify student needs, strengthen transitions into kindergarten, and ensure effective systems of support for all learners, including students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Communicate and support a shared vision for teaching and learning that promotes student achievement, continuous improvement, accountability, and high expectations.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and foster an inclusive school environment where every student feels valued, respected, and supported.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the school day, during school activities, and within the community while promoting a positive, safe, and welcoming learning environment.
