Job Summary
The Specialty Gas Filler – Lab Technician is responsible for filling specialty gas (pure / multi‑component) high‑pressure gas cylinders in accordance with established quality and conformance specifications per DOT, FDA, industry, and company requirements to ensure quality and conformance specifications are met. The role also assists with scheduling all product production, analysis, finished packaging, labeling, certificates of quality, and shipping requirements.
Job Responsibilities- Perform cylinder filling activities of specialty gas products.
- Inspect cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures as required by industry standards, Keen Compressed Gas Pre‑Fill requirements, and evacuate cylinders to eliminate contaminants.
- Fill cylinders by pressure/temperature or gravimetrically per regulations, industry standards and company procedures.
- Ensure cylinders are properly prepared for shipping, including appropriate product labels per GHS standards, lot labeling, valve shrink‑wrapping, and quality certificates as required.
- Complete production control records in a timely manner at the time of production.
- Report any problems or issues with equipment or materials to supervisor or other designated personnel.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly lab appearance.
- Monitor lead times and effectively prioritize workloads.
- Assist with testing, inspection, and analysis of all gas products.
- Review and approve analytical results, certificates of analysis, and associated documentation per Keen's SOPs and customer requirements.
- Coordinate with operations teams regarding delivery schedules, product complaints, and special product requests.
- Support the lab team with health/safety and ISO quality program maintenance.
- Assist in the maintenance of laboratory standards, including proper inventory, labeling, documentation, storage, and presentation.
- Familiar with local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOT, etc.).
- Familiar with industry guidelines (Gases and Welding Distributor Association and Compressed Gas Association).
- Assist with filling of medical and food‑grade gases when primary medical gas filler(s) are off or assistance is required.
- Understand Keen Medical cGMP practices and food‑grade procedures to ensure compliance with FDA and Keen requirements.
- Associate degree preferred in Chemistry/Science or 2 years of relevant experience in industrial or medical gas cylinder filling.
- Aptitude for high precision and accurate detailed work.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to coordinate efforts with multiple departments.
- Ability to operate a forklift and maintain forklift certification.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex instructions such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information to co‑workers and customers.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Stand, use hands and arms, talk/hear; lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Complete and pass capabilities testing for this position at the assigned Occupational Health facility.
- Participate in safety training and attend monthly safety meetings.
- Maintain knowledge of Company Safety Manual and all safety policies and procedures.
- Oversee the safe operation of the lab and specialty gas fill rooms.
- Wear appropriate PPE (steel‑toed boots, safety glasses, etc.).
