Overview
The Value Stream Manager is responsible for the overall operation of a value stream, implementing the Generac Manufacturing System (GMS) to ensure a safe work environment, drive quality improvements, and deliver an excellent customer experience. The role focuses on developing a qualified team, maximizing profitable growth, and reducing operating costs, inventories, and lead times through continuous improvements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the value stream in daily operations and continuous improvement activities.
- Emphasize creation of continuous product flow, utilize pull systems, and balance workload.
- Ensure standardized work and processes are followed, countermeasures implemented, and safety improvements achieved.
- Foster a culture that stops to fix problems and ensures quality right the first time.
- Instill and maintain a positive, can‑do team atmosphere.
- Design and direct functional area work, develop team objectives aligned with company strategy.
- Manage organizational talent through performance management, succession planning, and development.
- Utilize PDCA and MDI processes to deliver metric results in people, safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Develop a visual value stream map to surface problems and avoid hidden issues.
- Execute Leader Standard Work and provide effective training and cross‑training for continuous smooth operation.
- Develop and execute short‑ and long‑term continuous improvement plans for people, safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics.
- Lead and coordinate successful launch of New Product Introductions (NPI) within operations.
- Participate in development of standards, programs, and facility strategic plans.
- Facilitate flow of information, sharing of best practices, and external benchmarks.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5 years of progressive operations or lean management experience.
- 3 years of demonstrated implementation experience in Lean principles.
- Lean, Operations or Supply Chain Certifications.
- Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP system.
- Experience in flow principles, Kanban, and Plan‑for‑Every‑Part (PFEP).
- Experience leading diverse teams.

- Connect & Coach – create cross‑functional dialogue and drive action through coaching.
- Continuous Improvement – use KPIs to create reliable, sustainable improvements, drive standard work, focus on process.
- Drive to Win – set high performance standards, monitor and redirect to ensure project results, coach balance and problem solving, improve customer/employee experience.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; use hands to manipulate objects or controls; stand and walk. The employee may need to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders, and occasionally lift up to 25–50 pounds. This role typically involves frequent and continuous computer‑based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
