Recruitment incentives:

  • $10,000.00 recruitment incentive for:
    Registered Nurses, Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurse Consultants, Nursing Supervisors, Compliance Nurses
  • $7,500.00 recruitment incentive for Licensed Practical Nurses
  • $5,000.00 recruitment incentive for Certified Nurse's Assistants

Referral bonuses of $1,000 are available to referring DHSS employees. You must be a new employee to the State of DE to be eligible for this program.

Recruitment incentives will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire and will begin after the first quarter of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DHSS.

Referral bonuses of $1,000 will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire of the referred applicant.

Summary Statement

The LPN, a Licensed Practical Nurse, is sometimes referred to as a vocational nurse. LPNs provide direct care to their patients. They are responsible for providing the daily basic needs of patients, including administering medication and treatments, and maintain close communication with their supervisors, the Registered Nurses. If patients have minor wounds, LPNs perform wound cleaning and dressing changes. LPNs are also responsible for checking patients' hydration and food intake and assisting patients with hygiene and ADLs.

  • Administers treatments as directed.
  • Takes and records vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration).
  • Pours, administers, charts and records medications.
  • Gives prescribed intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and inoculations.
  • Observes patient behavior and condition and reports changes to appropriate staff.
  • Records information on patients' charts.
Job Requirement Series Licensed Practical Nurse I

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possession of a Delaware practical Nurse license, Delaware temporary license or multi-state compact license.
Licensed Practical Nurse II

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
  • At least six months' experience as a Practical Nurse.
Licensed Practical Nurse III

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
  • At least eighteen months' experience as a Practical Nurse.

Conditions of Hire
  • All new hires are required to attend an in-person, statewide mandatory New Employee Orientation on their first day of employment at a designated location in either Kent or New Castle County.
  • A satisfactory criminal background check is required and must be covered by the applicant, with an estimated cost of $85.00. Pre-employment drug testing is also required.
  • All new hires are required to complete a 2-Step TB/PPD test, which will be administered on their first day at the facility.
  • This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
