Sr. Maintenance Journeyman – HVAC (New Castle, DE)
Job SummarySenior Maintenance Journeyman – HVAC responsible for providing expert-level maintenance support in HVAC/plumbing across the agency’s facilities in New Castle, DE. Must troubleshoot complex issues, conduct preventive maintenance, and respond to emergencies 24/7.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide expert-level maintenance support in HVAC/plumbing field.
- Troubleshoot the most complex problems and issues.
- Serve as primary expertise on projects and tasks such as scope and budgeting.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and emergency response (24/7) at any facility location.
- Direct and inspect work of assigned personnel when required.
- Develop and maintain HVAC/plumbing preventive maintenance programs and protocols for agency assets, equipment, and facilities.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Perform other assigned duties as required.
- Expert knowledge of HVAC or plumbing field.
- Full understanding of agency policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and agency safety regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of state laws pertaining to motor vehicle operation on public roadways.
- Compliance with Federal Drug & Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
- Ability to lead work crew, coach employees, and provide on-the-job training.
- Full competency based on external accreditation, certification, and license.
- Independent diagnosis and repair of complex HVAC or plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of procurement procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
- Ability to read work orders and translate into work plans.
- Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds within 20 yards.
- Ability to work in hazardous situations such as moving heavy equipment, at heights, on steep grades, and on ladders and uneven surfaces.
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protection equipment (hard hats, protective shoes and clothing, aprons, gloves, eyewear, hearing protection, respirators).
- Ability to perform repetitive motions (grasping, reaching, bending, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, climbing).
- Willingness and availability to work day, night, or emergency hours to maintain continuous operation.
- Ability to work in adverse weather and emergency conditions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including listening.
- Strong interpersonal and relational skills with authority personnel, external customers, vendors, etc.; provide highest level of customer service and professionalism.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent related years of experience.
- Seven (7) years of relevant experience in commercial HVACR/plumbing field (ten years preferred).
- Vocational training preferred, including successful completion of a federally‑approved plumbing/HVAC apprenticeship program.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within six (6) months.
- Journey person certificate or master electrician license, in good standing, issued by a state or U.S. territory or District of Columbia licensing authority.
- Subject to pre‑employment physical, drug test, and background investigation.
- All employees must have direct deposit or enroll in a payroll card program for bi‑weekly pay.
- Employees with valid CDL must maintain current Medical Examiner’s Certificate and undergo random drug and alcohol testing per federal and state regulations.
- Willingness and availability for duty at any hour, day, or night as required.
- Seven (7) years of relevant experience in commercial HVAC/plumbing field.
- Completion of federally approved plumbing/HVACR apprenticeship program.
- HVAC Journeyman License.
- Base Salary: USD $71,917 per year (Full‑time).
- Full‑time employment (no commission, bonus, overtime, or security clearance required).
