Job Summary

The Mobile Technician II is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing vehicle system failures, and conducting repairs on heavy-duty trucks and trailers with limited supervision. The role also includes shop work between service calls and occasional after-hours on-call duties.

Responsibilities
  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction(s).
  • Provide customers with preventative maintenance solutions when appropriate.
  • Maintain 80% productivity and prevent comebacks.
  • Perform inspections and scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, lubrications, and filter replacements.
  • Repair, re-line, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric, and accessories).
  • Test-drive vehicles and components using appropriate equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems including leaf, coil, and Hendrickson walking-beam suspensions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, exhaust, steering, air conditioning, PTO, and custom exhaust systems.
  • Adjust, remove, and replace clutches and drive lines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fuel tanks, fifth wheels, trailer hitches, pintle hooks, auxiliary axles, and frames.
  • Perform tandem alignment, front-axle king-pin and bushing repairs.
  • Perform basic aluminum and steel wire welding.
  • Utilize machinery to repair or fabricate driveshafts.
  • File, grind, sand, and smooth repaired surfaces with power and hand tools.
  • Remove upholstery, accessories, and electrical-window equipment to access vehicle bodies and fenders.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and service truck.
  • Practice safe driving.
Qualifications & Training
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Diesel technology certificate or degree is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience repairing Class 7 & 8 trucks and trailers.
  • Welding, air-brake, and certification experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record;
    Class A CDL preferred.
  • Must provide hand tools, air tools, and toolbox.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Perfect safety record required.
Working Conditions

Exposure to inside and outside conditions, extreme temperatures (average 100°F), humid conditions, chemical hazards, vibration, equipment noise, and confined spaces.
